Verdict: Bishop Gilbert Deya NOT Guilty in Baby Theft Case
Bishop Gilbert Deya, a controversial televangelist. Was found not guilty of child trafficking by a court in Nairobi. After the prosecution failed to present a compelling case.
Robison Ondieki, the senior principal magistrate of Milimani, determined that the prosecution failed to prove its case because it lacked sufficient evidence to incriminate Deya.
Deya was charged with five counts of kidnapping minors from the Mountain View estate in Nairobi between 2002 and 2004.
To secure Deya’s release, his attorney, John Swaka, revealed that the prosecution’s case was riddled with inconsistencies, rendering a conviction impossible.
As he was in London at the time of the alleged offense, he stated through his counsel that the charges against him were malicious.
Deya and his supporters gathered in front of the Milimani Court, chanting melodies and ululating in response to the good news.

Deya stated to the media, following his acquittal, that he had absolved his detractors for the wrongdoings, despite the case tarnishing his reputation for years.
He added that he would return to the United Kingdom to recommence his ministry.
“I have spent seven years in court. “In 2004, I was diagnosed with schizophrenia in the United Kingdom and placed in a special institution with a curfew,” he said.
“However, I am thankful that the case has concluded and that my ministry in Kenya can resume. In the United Kingdom, I will see you very shortly. Also, thank you to my supporters. Gilbert Deya is a man of liberty.”
Several supporters told the media that they supported the pastor because of the miracles he conducted during his tenure.
“It has been a day of liberty, the case has been resolved. I am pleased that the judge dismissed all charges against the bishop. According to one of Deya’s supporters, justice has been served.
