US, France, Canada & UN Envoys Summoned by CARICOM Over Haiti Situation
CARICOM, a coalition of Caribbean countries, called upon certain ambassadors to Jamaica on Sunday, March 10, due to ongoing delays in Kenya’s efforts to dispatch police to Haiti.
Although the United Nations approved Kenya’s deployment of 1,000 police officers to the troubled nation, the progress has been hindered by legal proceedings.
Representatives called upon include those from the United States, France, Canada, and the United Nations.
Guyana’s Vice President, Bharrat Jagdeo, conveyed that envoys would be tasked with investigating possibilities to establish order and renew confidence among the Haitian population.
“Criminals have now taken over the country. There is no government, it is becoming a failed society,” he stated on the need for the emergency meeting.
Furthermore, the diplomats, in collaboration with CARICOM, will explore potential methods to offer support to the population of Haiti.

The gathering took place on the day the United States evacuated non-essential American personnel from its embassy in Port-au-Prince.
Furthermore, the delegation from the European Union has departed the conflict-ridden nation.
The German foreign ministry conveyed this information, stating that ambassadors from EU countries have subsequently departed for the nearby Dominican Republic.
The diplomats are expected to be briefed about the conversation between President William Ruto and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, which took place on Saturday, March 9th.
In the face of the worsening conditions in Haiti, Ruto gave assurance to the United States that Kenya remains dedicated to fulfilling its promise of sending 1,000 police officers to Haiti.
The Kenyan Police will collaborate extensively with Haiti’s security forces to guarantee the conduct of impartial and transparent elections in the country.
