US Embassy Issues New Demonstrations Alert for Kenya, Says it Could Get Violent
The United States Embassy in Kenya alerted its citizens about planned protests scheduled for Thursday, July 11.
These protests are anticipated to occur in various cities throughout Kenya, as indicated by the Embassy.
Despite President William Ruto’s call for dialogue with concerned Kenyans, the Embassy noted the ongoing calls for anti-government protests.
The US disclosed intelligence reports suggesting that some protesters intended to block major roads during the demonstrations.
โEven protests that appear peaceful can escalate into violence unexpectedly. Traffic disruptions and delays are likely,โ US citizens were cautioned.
Consequently, American citizens in Kenya were advised to monitor local media for updates on highway and road conditions before traveling.

โInform friends and family of your location and safety status,โ US citizens planning to visit Nairobi and other regions were instructed.
Although President William Ruto assured security for all Kenyan residents during the protests, the US Embassy emphasized the importance of reviewing personal security plans.
โCarry a copy of your U.S. passport along with your current Kenyan visa,โ the US government further advised its citizens.
Several other countries, including Australia, Russia, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom, have also issued warnings to their citizens about the Kenyan demonstrations.
Initially sparked by opposition to the Finance Bill, 2024, the protests that began in June have evolved into broader dissatisfaction with the current political leadership in Kenya.
