US Commits Ksh 668M for Special KDF Facility in 5 Govt Deals
Monday, April 24, saw the third meeting of the US-Kenya Bilateral Strategic Dialogue in Washington, D.C. Following this meeting, the administration of President William Ruto and the US government reached five agreements.
Alfred Mutua, Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken led the negotiations, which resulted in the agreement of five pillars.
The Kenya Defense Forces benefited from the most recent rounds of negotiations. President Joe Biden’s administration committed to bolstering the KDF’s ability to combat extremism by completing an operation center in the country in collaboration with American soldiers.
“The United States has committed to completing the Ksh668 million (USD 5 million) Counter Insurgency, Terrorism, and Stability Operations Center,” the US government said in a statement.
According to the terms of the agreement, the facility would be located in Manda Bay, Lamu.

Over the next five years, the Biden administration has pledged to create at least one million new jobs annually in Kenya and significantly reduce food insecurity. The agreement was the first pillar of economic revitalization cooperation between Kenya and the United States.
The agreements between the two governments also incorporated election-related provisions. Despite this, the United States has pledged to promote accountability and effective democratic institutions, bolster the rule of law and respect for human rights, and address governance and fiscal transparency.
“The United States and Kenya also agreed to continue cooperating against the illegal exploitation of wildlife by transnational organized crime.
Two governments agreed that Kenya and the United States would develop and strengthen the capacity of the Kenyan judiciary.
The Biden administration has also pledged to expand cooperation with Kenya in the health sector. Key issues highlighted in the health sector included increasing Kenya’s domestic manufacturing capacity for human vaccines and pharmaceuticals, as well as providing incentives for foreign direct investment and skill transfer.
The two nations also committed to expanding their partnership to defend against cyber threats shared by both nations.
In addition, to combat corruption, the United States has pledged to assist Kenya’s Judiciary with cases of graft and terrorism.
“The United States will continue to partner with Kenyan law enforcement agencies and judicial institutions to build capacity to disrupt, respond to, and investigate instances of corruption, acts of terrorism, and transnational organized crime,” the US stated.
