Unveiling the Truth: President Ruto Urged to Apologize for Deceiving Kenyans with False Manifesto
John Mbadi, a nominated member of parliament, accuses President William Ruto of lying to Kenyans during his presidential campaigns preceding the 2022 General Election.
Mbadi, speaking on Citizen TV’s Day Break program on Thursday, stated that Kenyans are dissatisfied with the rising cost of living because Ruto promised to reduce it from where Uhuru Kenyatta left it.
“You must implement your manifesto, but you have been dishonest. You should have informed Kenyans that, if elected, we will implement the housing program by deducting 3% of their salaries to fund it. That you didn’t tell Kenyans,” Mbadi said.
President Ruto was elected on a platform of reducing the cost of living; however, eight months into his administration, Kenya is engaged in a heated debate over the Finance Bill, 2023, which seeks to increase taxation as the Kenya Kwanza government seeks to collect more from Kenyans.

Ruto told Kenyans that Uhuru was overtaxing them and that he will work to reduce taxes. Today, taxes are increasing, but you did not inform Kenyans of this. Therefore, the question is, “Are you implementing the manifesto you sold to Kenyans?” Mbadi posed.
“You were dishonest and you misled Kenyans, for which they deserve an apology. The voters who supported you deserve an apology. “They are so disappointed because they expected things to be handled differently,” he added.
Ruto’s push for the creation of a chief administrative secretary (CAS). A position that the High Court had declared unconstitutional. Has also sparked debate since he assumed office in September of last year. Despite his promise that his election would be an economic moment and not an opportunity for the political class to create positions for themselves.
The Finance Bill 2023 proposes, among other things, a 16% Value-Added-Tax (VAT) on fuel and a 3% housing fund, which it claims is not a tax. It has already been the subject of a petition of opposition.
In the meantime, the 2023/2024 budget will be presented to Parliament on June 15.
