Unveiling Raila’s Nigerian ‘King’ Photo
A photo allegedly depicting former Kenyan prime minister Raila Odinga being crowned king in Nigeria surfaced on social media, sparking widespread speculation and rendering the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader a top trend on Saturday.
The image, which was initially shared by X, formerly Twitter, user Muchiri Gichuri, suggested that Raila Odinga was crowned King of Osun-Osogbo at a private ceremony.
GossipA2Z.com, however, confirmed that the photos circulating on social media were fake after undertaking a thorough analysis using multiple fact-checking tools, including Google image reverse search.
Consequently, we can state with certainty that the photo has been altered from the December 1977 original.
The image was originally captured by the international news agency AFP during the coronation of former Central African Republic president Jean-Bedel Bokassa as emperor.
In an attempt to deceive Kenyans into believing that the manipulated photograph was recent, the photograph’s colors were altered.

In addition, the altered image replaced Bokassa’s cranium with that of Raila.
Bokassa died in November of 1996.
The photo surfaced after the former prime minister had been absent from public view for six days.
Raila’s most recent public appearance occurred on Friday, August 25, at his wife’s 73rd birthday 50th wedding anniversary celebration. Notable Azimio leaders, including Martha Karua and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, attended the event.
Before his return for the anniversary celebration, the leader of the ODM had been on a private journey to the United Kingdom.
According to multiple reports, the ODM leader will be traversing the Western region today for a variety of engagements. He will visit the provinces of Busia and Vihiga.
Notably, Raila will visit his stronghold days after President William Ruto’s five-day visit to the region.
