UDA Official Among 2 Kenyan Politicians Killed in Uganda Road Accident

Two Kenyan politicians lost their lives after their vehicle was involved in a tragic accident in Uganda.

The accident happened along the Moroto-Napak road at Tapaach, claiming the lives of four people in total.

    Victims Identified

According to reports, the four deceased individuals are:

    • Philemon Lotudo
    • Elijah Lopuke
    • Jackson Kariwoi
    • Ben Ikong

Horrifying images from the crash site show the black SUV completely wrecked, indicating the impact was severe.

    How the Tragedy Unfolded

Reports confirm that Kariwoi and Ikong died on the spot, while Lotudo succumbed to injuries on the way to the hospital. The fourth victim passed away while receiving treatment.

One of the deceased had vied for the Kapenguria MP seat in 2022, while the other had contested for an MCA position.

Lopuke had recently gained political recognition, winning the UDA chairmanship in Alale Ward, West Pokot, in May 2024.

    Investigation Underway

West Pokot County Commissioner Khaliff Abdullahi confirmed the incident, stating that investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the crash.

Authorities also revealed that the vehicle belonged to the West Pokot County government.

    Repatriation of the Bodies

The repatriation of the victimsโ€™ bodies required cooperation between Kenyan and Ugandan officials. The deceased were later taken to Cherangany Mortuary in Kitale.

    Survivors and Eyewitness Accounts

The victims were part of a delegation accompanying Pokot South MP David Pkosing on a cross-border tour between Kenya and Uganda.

Sook Ward MCA Martin Komongiro narrowly survived the crash and was rushed to Eldoret for specialized treatment.
