UDA MP Slams Gachagua as Mt Kenya Political Tension Heightens
Mbeere North MP Geoffrey Ruku has advocated for political alliances in Mt Kenya region with East side supporting Justin Muturi and Kithure Kindiki while the west stand by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Speaking during a church service in Mung’au, Embu County, the lawmaker noted that it is high time the region’s political allegiance splits from the bigger Mt Kenya region since they are equally represented and have influential leaders in the government.
โโI think it is high time we divide the mountain so that we can have a Mt Kenya East and West. This daily politics of winning that Mt Kenya is this and that, we are tired of it,โโ he told the congregation.
Ruku, therefore, called upon its leaders and citizens to unite and negotiate for development issues independently under the leadership of their Cabinet Secretaries in the government.
In what was seen as an indirect target at the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Laikipia East Member of Parliament Mwangi Kiunjiri who have been trying to fight over who calls shots at the region, Ruku argued that the move will accord Mt Kenya East leaders who respect the citizens.
The lawmaker added that the move was informed by frequent threats of politics from their counterparts from the Western side of the mountain who he argued are involved in constant politics over who the leader of Mt Kenya is.
Ruku further noted that they, as a region from the East, will chart their future political discourse under the leadership of Justin Muturi and Kithure Kindiki.
“Mt Kenya East, where I am currently standing, we have our leaders. We have Justin Bedan Njoka Muturi and Professor Kithure Kindiki, those are our leaders,” Ruku added.

His utterance comes amid growing political tension in the region over who is the kingpin of the region as the country moves toward the 2027 elections.
Recently, there have been growing factions with one wing supporting Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua as the leader of Mt Kenya while former Laikipia North Member of Parliament Mwangi Kiunjiri (an ally of President William Ruto) saying that the DP is not fit to lead the region.
Kiunjuri recently claimed that the DP is out on a mission to divide the mountain from the rest of the country as political preparations for the 2027 General Election gain momentum.
Speaking during a meeting at Queenโs Garden Hotel in Eldoret, Kiunjuri claimed that Gachaguaโs recent efforts to consolidate support within Mt Kenya are part of a broader scheme.
He claimed the DP was scheming to split the government and diminish President William Rutoโs influence in the vote-rich region.
“We will oppose attempts by the deputy president to isolate the region as he is doing so for selfish political gains,” Kiunjuri noted.
