UDA MP Recounts How Protesters Rescued Him & Disabled MP During Parliament Breach
UDA-nominated Member of Parliament Jackson Kosgei recounted how protesters saved his life after Parliament was breached during Tuesday’s anti-Finance Bill protests on June 27.
During an interview, Kosgei shared that he couldn’t evacuate the building with his colleagues because he was in a wheelchair.
He explained that the evacuation route leading to the tunnel was inaccessible for disabled individuals, so he sought refuge in a building inside Parliament.
Kosgei and a female MP who uses crutches decided to seek safety in the private members’ lounge.
However, protesters eventually reached the building and started a conversation with him.
To his surprise, the protesters advised him to leave for his safety and even helped evacuate him from the building.

“They recognized me and said I was a good man. They wanted to escort me out, warning that things could get worse,” Kosgei recounted.
“They explained they were not bad people but were fighting for their rights. I told them where I needed to go, and they safely escorted me.”
Kosgei expressed gratitude to the young men who helped him, appreciating their humanity despite his support for the Finance Bill 2024.
“I thank the young men who saved my life and my colleagues. Even in their anger, they showed humanity,” he stated.
He also expressed condolences to those affected, acknowledging that some Kenyans lost their lives during the breach.
Police opened fire on protesters who breached Parliament on Tuesday.
Human rights organizations reported nearly four fatalities from the incident, with others injured. The police have yet to confirm the exact number of casualties.
