UDA Concerns: Sports CS Ababu Namwamba Under Fire

Ababu Namwamba, the Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Sports, is under siege from his own United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, whose members are dissatisfied with his performance.

On Sunday, Senator Samson Cherargei of Nandi was the most recent lawmaker to criticize the CS for what he termed the exploitation of athletes in the country.

Charges stated that the ministry was being mismanaged into oblivion in support of Kikuyu legislator Kimani Ichung’wah’s claims that Namwamba was underperforming in the sports portfolio.

“How can ministry officials fly first class to Budapest, Hungary with their girlfriends at the expense of our athletes?” At the current World Athletics Championships, Cherargei posed.

The Senator alleged that unidentified sports ministry officials were exploiting female athletes.

“Parliament must summon CS sports to prevent catastrophic mismanagement of our sports,” he concluded his scathing criticism of the CS.

Thursday, August 17th, Kimani Ichung’wah pledged to summon the CS to parliament to respond to claims that athletes were being neglected.

Ichung’wah was particularly enraged by reports that the CS and the entire ministry had neglected Kenyan athletes at the Berlin Olympics.

Ichung’wah admonished the CS on the floor of the house, telling him that it was not a minister’s job to raise flags in the streets and force his way through traffic with Subaru escorts.

He reminded Namwamba that he had been appointed to service the country’s athletes.

Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai jumped on the bandwagon and revealed that Namwamba had refused to sponsor a sporting event in his ward.

The Azimio MCA disclosed that when he reached out to Namwamba for assistance, he was informed that the Ministry could dispatch someone to deliver a speech despite the absence of funds.

President William Ruto’s criticism of his own cabinet and principal secretaries appears to have emboldened the politician.

While reprimanding the Sports CS, Ichung’wah mentioned that he was following the President’s lead, who stated that he knows more about ministries and agencies than the individuals he appointed.
