Twitter Blue Extends Tweet Limit to 4k Characters

Beyond long video uploads and the coveted blue checkmark, you now have a very practical reason to subscribe to Twitter Blue. Blue members in the United States can now send tweets of up to 4,000 characters in length.

You cannot currently schedule these tweets or save them as drafts, but this feature could be useful if you’d rather not compose a lengthy thread of multiple tweets just to share your thoughts.

These tweets can still be replied to and quoted by free Twitter users. Twitter is aware that scrolling through a sea of these lengthy posts can be tedious.

Any tweet exceeding 280 characters will now conceal any additional content behind a “show more” prompt. Blue costs $8 per month, or $84 per year, on average.

This is unlikely to convince you to abandon social networks such as Facebook or Mastodon, where long posts have been available for some time.

However, it may be useful if you want to share the same post on multiple social media platforms without having to split it up or write a condensed version.

Twitter is certainly under pressure to make Blue more appealing. As of mid-January, Twitter reportedly had only 180,000 Blue subscribers in the United States and approximately 290,000 globally.

Elon Musk’s goal is to generate fifty percent of Twitter’s revenue from subscriptions, even though the redesigned subscription has been available for a relatively short period.
