Treasury Official Found Dead After Threats Over Sh286M Tender
The family of a Treasury employee, whose body was found under mysterious circumstances at Machakos Level 5 Hospital, is urgently seeking justice.
Relatives of Evans Chirchir revealed that he had voiced concerns for his safety over a Sh286 million tender before his untimely death.
Represented by lawyers Philip Keaton and Felix Langat, the family reported that Mr. Chirchir’s body was discovered in the mortuary with a noticeable head injury.
Concerns arose when Mr. Chirchir failed to return home over the weekend. His colleagues, upon inquiring, learned that he had gone to Machakos with friends.

After a thorough search in hospitals and police stations, Chirchir’s brother, unable to locate him, led the family to court, suing the Inspector General of Police and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to demand his whereabouts.
Lawyer Keaton informed the Milimani High Court that before the hearing (on September 3, 2024), the family received news that Chirchir’s body had been found at Machakos mortuary.
Subsequently, Keaton withdrew the application to compel the police to produce Chirchir, stating that the case had taken a significant turn.
He vowed that the family would now focus on pursuing justice for Chirchir’s death, urging the DCI and IG to track down his killers.
A post-mortem examination is scheduled for September 4 to determine the exact cause of death.
