Transport Association Launches Electronic Speed Governors: How it Works
On Wednesday, March 6, stakeholders in road safety introduced an electronic decal designed to reduce the number of road-related deaths nationwide.
Addressing the media at the unveiling of the digital system, David Njoroge, Chairman of the Road Safety Association of Kenya (RSAK), emphasized that the electronic sticker would incorporate speed limiters, facilitating the swift identification of traffic violators by law enforcement personnel.
He observed that once the system is installed in a vehicle, it will electronically detect the details of the motorists.
This encompasses details such as the car’s manufacturer, license plate number, ownership documentation, and chassis identification, among other things.
Njoroge praised the system as a groundbreaking initiative poised to revolutionize transportation nationwide.
He urged the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and traffic police officers to enforce the system in order to decrease the rate of deaths on Kenyan roads.

“My prayer is to ask NTSA and police not to fight this system because it will help them. They ought to support it because they aim to protect lives,” he stated.
“This will help even drivers of lorries to be in check and adhere to the rules.”
He further mentioned that once all stakeholders in road safety implement the new system, within four months, there would be a notable decrease in the number of road fatalities.
In the recent two months, more than 649 individuals have died in traffic accidents across the nation, as per the most recent data from NTSA.
“This has never been done before. Now the system will have one certificate for all drivers. The moment you activate it, we see it on our system,” he remarked.
“If the traffic police department together with NTSA can give us a window of three months to have a recall program, the fourth month we will talk of no fatalities along the road.”
How it Works
The electronic sticker will be affixed to the inner left side of the windshield, aiding authorities in gathering essential data about the sector, such as the total number of vehicles within the country.
The fresh system will additionally detect stolen vehicles at different checkpoints throughout the nation.
Drivers who surpass the designated speed limit won’t escape notice, as the electronic sticker will flag these vehicles within the system.
This information will be crucial for traffic officers responsible for monitoring individuals who violate traffic laws.
The system will additionally include a functionality ensuring the integrity of the electronic sticker, making it difficult for any tampering attempts, and readily identifiable should a motorist try to damage it.
As of the article’s publication, NTSA had not announced its decision regarding the adoption of the new system.
