Days after attending the coronation of King Charles III in the United Kingdom, President William Ruto, and First Lady Mama Rachel underwent several protocol modifications during their visit to Jerusalem.

According to a report from Jerusalem Post, beef was replaced with seared sea bass on the menu for the state dinner. Initially, the dinner consisted of beef except for vegetarians.

One of Kenya’s delegations, however, reassured the hosts that Ruto was adaptable and could therefore do either, adding that fish is one of Kenya’s staple foods.
Therefore, the decision to serve fish as the main course rather than meat was viewed as a considerate gesture.

Ruto was also treated to a musical performance by Daphna Dekel, who sang in English, Hebrew, and Swahili.

President Herzog then proceeded to introduce Ruto to all of the guests by taking him from table to table.

This was a departure from the previous protocol at state dinners. In which guests were required to file past visiting presidents and be introduced by the Chief of State Protocol.

However, the Israeli president took a different approach by bringing his presidential guests of honor to each table. Allowing guests to take selfies with Ruto and Rachel.

Ruto discussed climate change issues at the state dinner. As Kenya will host an international conference on the topic in September 2023.

Ruto held discussions on security, health, energy. Water management, irrigation, agriculture, food sustainability, communications technology, and investment during his two-day trip to Israel.

He stated that Kenya desired to strengthen ties with Israel by eliminating double taxation and lowering restrictions.

On the other hand, President Herzog praised Kenya’s athletes, one of its most prized assets.

“We have always envied Kenya for its runners,” he said, adding that Lonah Chemtai Salpeter, Israel’s champion marathon runner, is married to a Kenyan.
