Tragic Wedding Well Incident: 17 Drown
The collapse of a domestic well within a family compound in the Kihunguro area of Kiambu County has claimed the lives of at least six individuals.
Six of the seventeen individuals drowned, causing the wedding ceremony to be terminated.
On August 19, Police Spokesperson Dr. Resila Atieno verified to GossipA2Z.com that a total of seventeen victims, including several children, had been identified.
In a swift and well-coordinated effort, first responders from Kiambu County, in collaboration with the local police, effectively rescued some family members and provided essential emergency services.
“Members of the public on their way to a wedding ceremony in the Kihunguro area made a halt at a friend’s residential plot approximately 50 meters west of the Kihunguro police post and began singing and dancing.
Over eleven individuals perished as a result of the collapse of the concrete covering the water well, according to a statement released by a spokesperson.

The police reported that two children who were to serve as flower children at the wedding were among those killed in the tragedy.
“Rescue operations were activated and eleven people were rescued, including two children who were transported to Ruiru hospital for medical care; a baby girl among those rescued was verified dead.
The National Police Service issued a statement that read in part, “Fire brigade from Ruiru and police at the scene assisting with the rescue.”
At the scene, police officers and health officers from Kiambu County performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the survivors.
Dr. Resila disclosed that police officers assisted the injured and transported them to a hospital in Kiambu, where they were admitted to receive emergency care.
The police also cautioned the public against placing excessive weight on concrete wells, as this could compromise the integrity of the structure.
