Tragic Twist: Kenyan Man Slain While Exiting Car on Australian Highway, Mourners Grieve

A 29-year-old Kenyan man named Joel Kandie met his demise on Princess Highway in Yallah Wollongong, Australia, while exiting his vehicle.

Alfred Koech, a Kenyan resident in Australia, informed Gossipa2z.com that the tragic event unfolded around 10 pm as Kandie was en route to a night shift.

Kandie was fatally struck by a speeding vehicle.

As reported by Wavefm.com.au, the victim had alighted from his car to inspect a busy stretch of the M1 highway when another vehicle collided with him.

Witnesses described Kandie’s car crashing into a concrete barrier on the highway, prompting him to disembark.

Upon stepping out, he was struck by a speeding car, resulting in instantaneous death.

Koech expressed condolences to the family via Facebook, acknowledging the challenging circumstances they face.

Kandie relocated to Australia in 2023.

A Facebook post by Edwin Kiprotich indicated that Kandie had resided in Sydney, Australia, for only a year.

The driver of the vehicle, a 52-year-old man responsible for the pedestrian’s death, escaped unharmed.

He underwent mandatory testing at Shellharbour Hospital while traffic police conducted investigations at the scene.

Kandie’s remains await autopsy at a morgue, pending preparation of a report for the coroner.

Efforts are underway to repatriate his body for burial, according to Koech.

The accident caused traffic congestion as southbound lanes of the M1 Motorway were shut down for several hours.

Authorities appealed for dashcam footage or any information pertinent to the incident to aid in inquiries.

Kandie’s passing evokes memories of two Kenyan students who lost their lives in a January road accident.

Humphrey Ruto and Penuel Meli were driving in Perth, Australia, when their vehicle veered out of control and collided with a pole.

The ensuing blaze claimed the lives of the two individuals from Nandi County, despite the efforts of emergency responders summoned to the scene at approximately 2:10 am.
