Tragic On-Duty Fatality: Traffic Inspector Crushed

On Thursday, July 13th, along Nairobi’s Outering Road, a racing truck fatally injured a traffic officer.

Francis Kamau, the sub-county police commander of Buru Buru, verified the incident and stated that the officer was struck while inspecting a vehicle suspected of having an expired sticker.

Kamau informed GossipA2Z that the officer died en route to the hospital for evaluation and stabilization. The vehicle driver was detained to aid police investigations.

“The investigation is ongoing, and we have ruled out the possibility that the vehicle driver was intoxicated. This was a typical occurrence. Sadly, we lost a police officer,” lamented Kamau.

In addition, he praised the officer as a conscientious colleague and emphasized that the incident was the first of its kind in the region.

To avoid similar situations, Kamau implored motorists to drive cautiously and obey all traffic laws.

“I also urge all drivers to exercise greater caution while driving. Even though accidents do occur occasionally, I would advise drivers to be more cautious and avoid acceleration. “We should all work to ensure the safety of our roads,” he pleaded.

In response to the accident, the sub-county commander took decisive action to intensify the crackdown on drivers who disobey traffic laws and to train his officers to remain secure on the roads.

Traffic officers dispatched to the accident site towed the mangled truck and car to the station for further evaluation and to clear the slowly accumulating traffic.

In addition, they gathered statements from eyewitnesses and implored members of the public with additional information to assist with the investigation.

The officer’s corpse was transported to a nearby morgue pending an autopsy.

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) reports that between January and June 25, 2023, 2,124 individuals died in motor vehicle accidents.

The number was 137, compared to 2,261 during the same period in 2022. Following pedestrians with 729 fatalities were motorcyclists with 561. The following passengers were drivers with 403 and 189 fatalities, respectively.
