Tragic End: Officer on Duty Answers Wife’s Call, Goes Home and Shoots Himself Dead
In Migori County, police have initiated an inquiry into the demise of one of their own, an officer assigned to the Suna West Sub County.
Dorothy Migarusha, the police commander for Nyatike sub-county, reported that the officer, Gipson Omari, tragically ended his own life on Sunday morning, witnessed by his wife and children.
Commander Migarusha explained that Omari, who was 31 years old, shot himself in the chest.
Following the incident, he was transported to Life Care hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Before this tragic event, Omari had been on a night patrol with another police officer. At approximately 3:30 am, Omari excused himself, stating he needed to address personal matters at his home.
Shortly thereafter, the other officer on patrol heard a gunshot and rushed to Omari’s residence, only to discover him bleeding from a chest wound.
The initial response from other officers led to Omari being taken to the hospital, where he later died despite efforts to save him.

Preliminary investigations conducted by the Nyatike sub-county police indicate that Omari received a phone call from his wife, who asked him to purchase electricity tokens.
Upon returning home, and before conversing with his wife, Omari shot himself.
Migarusha shared that Omari’s wife recounted how he came home and, without any interaction, immediately proceeded to shoot himself.
This account is a critical part of the ongoing investigation as authorities seek to understand the motivations and circumstances leading to this incident.
Omari’s body has been transferred to the mortuary at Migori Level Four Hospital, where it will remain while the police continue their thorough investigation into the matter.
The circumstances surrounding this tragic event have left the local community and police force in shock, prompting a detailed examination to uncover any underlying issues that may have contributed to Omari’s decision to end his life.
