Tragic Crash: 2 Dead, 52 Injured in Massive 20-Vehicle Pileup on Nairobi-Nakuru Highway

Twenty vehicles were involved in the accident, and at least two people were killed, including a prominent pastor and his wife.

In addition, over 50 people, including 31 students, were injured in the nighttime accident, according to reports.

On the evening of Friday, July 14, two persons were killed in a multiple-vehicle accident at Acre Tano in Limuru along the Nairobi-Naivasha Highway.

According to eyewitnesses, trucks, a school bus, and several saloon automobiles were involved in the collision. The school bus transported Kayole’s students.
According to reports, the tragedy occurred after one of the drivers attempted a U-turn on the busy highway.

During rescue efforts, the victims were transported to the hospital for medical care. Traffic control officers were also dispatched to the site.

There are more automobiles on the opposite side. “After seeing the victims, I am even more shocked by this accident,” stated one of the witnesses.

Residents complained that the stretch had turned into a death trap and implored the Ministry of Transportation to take the necessary steps to reduce the number of fatalities.

“The stones between the two highways should be completely blocked to prevent U-turns on a congested roadway. This location is a black spot, and trailers are constantly in free motion. You must accelerate on all lanes or you will be struck from behind, said a resident.

The accident occurred weeks after a tragic accident in Londiani, Kericho County, which claimed 52 lives and severely injured others.

Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen announced adjustments to the sector to reduce road fatalities after the accident.

Murkomen ordered that all vehicles be equipped with dashcams and GPS sensors to record the vehicle’s speed and locations visited.

Murkomen directed that county governments, in collaboration with the federal government through the intergovernmental framework, construct markets off of highways.

The National Transportation and Safety Administration (NTSA) reported 2,124 fatalities between January and June of 2023. This was a decline from the same period the year prior when 2,261 fatalities were recorded.
