Tragic Collapse: Nairobi School Wall Crushes Homes, Claiming a Life
A wall at Kiboro Primary School in Nairobi on Friday morning collapsed, killing a nine-month-old baby and injuring two others.
Following the incidents, officials from Disaster Management, alongside the Kenya Red Cross Society, arrived at the scene and promptly initiated rescue operations.
“This morning at about 11.30 we received a call from residents of this area of a wall at Kiboro that had collapsed,” said one of the rescue team officers.
According to the officer, the wall collapsed on two houses located on the lower side of the said school building. He also attributed the collapsed wall to the ongoing El Nino rains.
“As we speak, the rescue operations are more or less complete and unfortunately we lost a 9-month-old,” the official noted.
The two injured women were rushed to Mama Lucy Hospital for additional medical treatment after receiving first aid from the rescue team.
According to one of the rescuers, the residents residing within the vicinity of the collapsed wall were reportedly served an evacuation notice on Thursday, advising them to vacate the premises and avoid potential incidents of the walls and buildings collapsing.
“A team of rescuers from the Department of Disaster Management have been here since yesterday and issued a call to the residents to evacuate,” noted the official.

Nevertheless, the team reiterated its advice to the residents, urging them to evacuate the weak houses that posed a risk to their lives.
Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja acknowledged the tragic incident and issued an apology to the affected families, vowing to support them in recovering from the ordeal.

“To the people of Nairobi, we have disaster management officers in all constituencies who are working to ensure your safety during the El Nino period. When asked to move, kindly do so. It’s for your safety,”
On Wednesday this week, a similar incident was witnessed at Coast Girls High School, where a wall collapsed, affecting the administration of the ongoing Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.
Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Sheriff Nassir deployed a rescue team to help mitigate the situation.
“I urge parents to remain calm as our engineers work to report on the way forward,” the Governor said in a statement.
