Tragedy Strikes in Garissa: Eight Security Officers Fall Victim to Landmine Attack

At least eight security officers were killed when a vehicle they were traveling in was struck by a landmine. The vehicle they were traveling in was carrying them.

Tuesday found the eight individuals participating in a security patrol in Bodhei, which is located in Garissa County. John Otieno, the North Eastern Regional Commissioner, stated that the incident had taken place.

Mr. Otieno stated, “There was an incident, but I have not yet received a comprehensive report on it.”

When the incident took place in the middle of the day. Eight officers from the Special Branch were conducting patrols along the border between Garissa and Lamu.

The security briefing that was seen by GossipA2Z. Stated that the officers were killed when the vehicle they were traveling in ran over a landmine. Which resulted in their deaths on the spot.

“The bodies have been located, but authorities have not been able to determine who the deceased were.” According to the report, the vehicle had sustained significant damage.

Military personnel responded immediately to the incident, but there was no progress report available by the time the newspaper went to press.

Another group of security officers was ambushed in the neighboring county of Lamu, but they managed to avoid injury and escape.

It is believed that members of the Al Shabaab group attacked Mararani, where they used a rocket-propelled grenade to target security officers.

Earlier in the day, in the Tarbaji area of Wajir County, a bus that was traveling from Nairobi to Mandera was riddled with bullets.

The fact that the driver continued despite having a flat tyre was what ultimately saved the day.

Just one day after Mr. Otieno called on local communities to join the government in the fight against terrorism, the attacks took place.

As the offensive in Somalia continues, there has been a noticeable uptick in the number of militants operating in the region.

According to recent reports originating from northern Kenya, militants affiliated with Al-Shabaab have recently increased their presence in the region.
