“They Want Me Dead!” – Naivasha MP Jayne Kihara Sparks Panic, Rejects Govt Bodyguards Amid Assassination Fears
Naivasha Member of Parliament Jayne Kihara has refused to accept government-provided security, saying she fears for her safety if protected by State officers.
Kihara accused the government of using security services to intimidate politicians, especially those in opposition. She believes receiving a new security team from the State could put her life in danger.
Her concerns come just days after Juja MP George Koimburi went missing under unclear circumstances—a case that has drawn widespread attention and criticism from opposition leaders.
The Naivasha MP revealed that her previous security officers were taken away and disarmed without any clear explanation.
“We’ve seen this before. It’s nothing new,” she said. “I don’t have any officers now. I don’t even know what investigations were done. My team was just told to hand in their phones and guns. Now, I only trust God to protect me.”
She added firmly, “If they try to assign me new officers, I will not accept. That is how they will finish me. I’ll only trust security personnel that I personally choose.”
According to Kihara, her current security troubles stem from her criticism of the Kenya Kwanza government and her loyalty to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Kihara earlier claimed her bodyguard was summoned in Naivasha and questioned over an incident involving gunfire at Gachagua’s party launch on May 15. During the event, someone believed to be a police officer fired shots in the air as people rushed towards the venue’s gate.

This isn’t the first time the Naivasha MP has raised alarms over her safety. On May 23—the same day MP Koimburi escaped from officers—Kihara publicly pleaded with President William Ruto to restore her security.
“I feel so exposed and unsafe. Mr. President, please return my bodyguard. I’m not a threat to anyone. Removing my protection makes me feel like someone wants to harm me. Don’t break the oath you made to protect us,” she said.
Kihara also mentioned the recent death of Kasipul MP Charles Were as a reminder of the risks politicians face without proper security. But following Koimburi’s disappearance, she seems to have lost trust in government-provided protection entirely.
Meanwhile, opposition leaders are increasing pressure on the government over what they say is political targeting. Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka rejected the police’s claim that Koimburi faked his own disappearance.
Both Kalonzo and Gachagua have hinted at the presence of a secretive unit operating within the State. Gachagua even suggested that this group might be using harmful chemicals to weaken or torture government critics.
