That Bullet Was Meant For Me! Simba Arati Reveals Close Call In Mugirango South Chaos
Governor Simba Arati of Kisii has described the events that unfolded during an incident while he was distributing bursaries in the Mugirango South constituency, detailing the chaos that ensued.
While distributing scholarship funds at the Nyakembeni market, Mr. Arati’s event reportedly faced an attack by a group of individuals linked to the local Member of Parliament, Silvanus Osoro.
Several individuals present at Governor Arati’s meeting are said to have suffered injuries amid the disturbance.
The Governor, who is associated with the opposition party ODM, described the unfolding of the conflict.
“A group of women were dancing, and I was talking to them. Suddenly, I saw children running… It turned out people were coming out of a car with AK47s (rifles),” Arati revealed.
As per the Governor’s inquiry into the source of the violence, he was informed that Osoro was the one responsible for instigating it.
He recounted, “When I asked who caused it, I was told it was Osoro. Many shots were fired. People broke their legs. The young man who had given me a chair behind me was shot, and he is currently in the hospital. Elderly women, some pregnant, others with broken limbs, are in the hospital.”
Arati believes the bullet that hit the young man behind him was meant for him.

“I am sure that the bullet that shot the young man behind me was aimed at me… This country has laws that must be followed,” he asserted.
Following the events on January 8, 2024, Mr. Osoro distanced himself from the assaults.
The legislator, a supporter of President William Ruto and the Majority Whip in the National Assembly, subsequently informed the press that Governor Simba Arati had masterminded the assaults as a strategy to garner support in Kisii by evoking sympathy.
This public altercation is not the first between these two politicians from Kisii.
In February 2021, a physical altercation took place during an event attended by Dr. Ruto and Raila Odinga, the leader of the ODM party.
During that period, Ruto served as the Deputy President in President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration, who has since retired.
ODM is calling for legal action against Osoro in light of the recent violence.
