Terror at Bomas- Chebukati’s Wife Reveals How 2022 Election Night Turned into a Nightmare
Mary Wanyonyi, the wife of former IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati, has shared how her family faced fear and tension on August 15, 2022, as Kenya awaited the presidential election results.
Fear Before the Announcement
Mary revealed that before leaving home for Bomas of Kenya, Chebukati received worrying phone calls. He confided in her that Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit was calling him. Concerned, Mary invited the bishop to their home. Sapit arrived with 13 other clergymen, and they prayed for Chebukati before he left for Bomas.
Lost Contact During Chaos
After leaving home, Chebukati was accompanied by Sapit and the clergymen. However, as chaos erupted at Bomas, Mary lost contact with him. She desperately tried calling him, but he was unreachable.
In search of help, Mary reached out to Citizen TV journalist Sam Gituku, who was covering the event live. Initially, Gituku assured her that everything seemed fine, but later, he realized trouble had started.
