Terrifying Rally Car Mishap Caught on Camera: Fans Narrowly Escape in Naivasha

A spectator has escaped an accident by a whisker after one of the rally cars veered off the course into the fans watching the race by the side. 

The incident which happened on Saturday during the World Rally Championship (WRC) safari rally, has sparked an uproar on social media

In a video making rounds, the rally driver can be seen trying to drift the car on the slightly muddy terrain. 

Failing at his attempt, he then drives into the watching crowd while trying to get the car back on course. 

The crowd scattered when the car neared them, as water from puddles on the road splashed on them.

However, a woman seems to have been paralyzed with fear, and as everyone else runs for their lives, she goes on and falls to the ground.

Luckily, the car misses her by chance, as the driver then drives off back on course. The crowd cheered loudly despite the near-death experience witnessed at the scene. 

President William Ruto flagged off the 2024 WRC safari rally on Thursday, March 28, at the Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi. 

Speaking during the event, Ruto also instructed the Sports Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ababu Namwamba to extend the rally from a three-day to a five-day event. 

“I think it is time to consider the request by drivers to return the rally to the five days it used to be,” Ruto stated. 

The president further highlighted the benefits attracted by the event. He noted that the media coverage would not only attract tourists but also enhance the country’s image to external investors

“This will provide a major boost to our economy, increasing incomes for local businesses, and direct and indirect jobs, and attracting local and foreign tourism investment,” the head of state added.
