Tanzania Responds to Claims Kenyans Bought All Taifa Stars CHAN Tickets
The Tanzanian government has dismissed rumours claiming Kenyan football fans bought out all the tickets for the highly anticipated Tanzania vs Morocco match in the African Nations Championship (CHAN). The reports alleged Kenyans wanted to block Tanzanians from cheering their home team, but officials have called the story false.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, August 21, President Samia Suluhuโs administration accused Kenyans of spreading fake news to scare Tanzanian supporters.
Government spokesperson Gerson Musigwa said the noise from Kenyan fans was simply because they were worried about Tanzaniaโs strength.
“Those are our neighbours, I hope you know who I am talking about. They are not even involved in our match tomorrow, but they are yapping,” Musigwa told reporters.
He dismissed the claims, stressing that Tanzanian fans will not be locked out of the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.
“I want to assure all the Tanzanians, the claims going around that they have purchased all the tickets for our match at the Benjamin Mkapa stadium are untrue,” he stated.

Musigwa further assured supporters that there was enough space and security for everyone who wished to attend.
“Come to the stadium gates, and you will enter. The government has taken necessary measures, there is adequate space and do not fear. They are yapping because they fear us,” he added.
Tanzania will face Morocco on Thursday at 8 pm at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in what is expected to be a tough encounter for the Taifa Stars. Morocco finished second behind Kenya in Group A, making the clash even more competitive.
Meanwhile, Kenya will play Madagascar on Friday at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, in the CHAN quarterfinals. Kenyan fans received good news after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) increased stadium capacity to 38,400 spectators.
The adjustment comes after the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) appealed CAFโs earlier 60 per cent attendance restriction, which had limited the crowd to 27,000 in Kenyaโs last group match against Zambia.
To boost fan experience, the Kenyan government has also expanded fan zones in Nairobi to 13 locations, with tighter security measures at Kasarani to ensure safety and compliance with CAF rules.
