Summon Waiguru: Wandayi Urges DCI in Kirinyaga Attack
Now, National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi wants the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to investigate the assault on Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina by tapping on the door of county governor Anne Waiguru.
During a session of Parliament on Tuesday afternoon, Wandayi stated that Waiguru’s alleged involvement in the pandemonium that left Njeri hospitalized must be investigated.
This, he said, was due to claims that the attackers, who purportedly arrived in three Toyota Probox vehicles, were acting under the direction of the Kirinyaga County government.
Therefore, he desires that Waiguru record a statement with the investigating agency and be prosecuted if found to be responsible for the offense.
“It appears that Maina was attacked by thugs who were ostensibly employed by the Kirinyaga county administration. We must condemn all forms of violence; violence is violence, whether it occurs in Kondele or Kerugoya, said the Ugunja representative.
“Therefore, this atrocity committed against our colleague by the County Governor of Kirinyaga and her agents must be investigated expeditiously, and the financiers and perpetrators of this heinous act must be punished severely.”
He added, “I saw the young representative in terrible condition on social media, having been viciously attacked by thugs hired by the Governor.” That is inadmissible. We demand that the DCI compel the Governor of Kirinyaga to record a statement and, if possible, bring her to court.”
Kisii Woman Representative Dorice Donya raised the issue in the House, alleging that her Kirinyaga counterpart was attacked by unruly adolescents while addressing congregants at an event.
Donya explained that she pleaded with the Deputy Sergeant-at-Arms to have Njeri airlifted to the Nairobi Hospital for additional treatment, but her request fell on dull ears and an ambulance was dispatched instead.
“I was informed that she had gone to inspect a restricted water project by the governor. The individuals who arrived were Kanjos, and they intended to drive her away from that location. “When this did not occur, they called for more people to come and evacuate her, during which she was severely injured,” Donya explained.
On his part, Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah stated that he had been informed that the lawmaker was in stable condition and called for a comprehensive investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice.
John Kiarie, the member of parliament for Dagoretti South South, went on to describe his own experience with political violence in the past, implying that the perpetrators are typically accountable to someone higher up, with whom the investigation should end.
“According to an English proverb, when the debate is lost, fools attack violently.” As they observed Maina Njeri’s ascent, they determined to use violence against her. There are various levels of accountability; we’re discussing the Probox; every act of political violence is a sponsored act,” he stated.
“As we investigate who these Probox users were, we must also determine who sponsored them, and accountability must extend to the highest level of this sponsor.”
Wamboka Nelson, a lawmaker from Bumula, implored the House to summon Prof. Kithure Kindiki, the secretary of the Interior Security Cabinet, to provide more information about the attack.
Njeri was struck by a stone to the head on Tuesday, sustaining severe injuries. She was rushed to the Kerugoya County Referral Hospital before being transferred to the Nairobi Hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment.
