‘Stop Scaring Investors!’ President Ruto Warns Azimio Against Protests

President William Ruto has warned Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party leaders and their supporters against creating hostility in the country since it scares both local and international investors who have developed an interest in the country’s economic space.

The Head of State says protests against the government after every election by the opposition derail development by creating a harsh environment for investors.

Speaking on Saturday at Victory Fish Farms, a private aquaculture project based at Kaksingri ward in Homa Bay County as part of his Nyanza tour, President Ruto said international investors are concerned about the Azimio demonstrations which sometimes end up in the destruction of property and loss of lives.

He says his government is keen to ensure that the country has a peaceful environment for development for economic stability.

“I have travelled around the world and come across investors. Nimepata watu wanataka kuweka vifaa vya utalii hapa kwenu lakini wameniuliza jambo moja…wameniuliza tunaskia huko kwenu ni mahali pa vita, vujo na mahali ya maandamano. Nataka wakati natafuta investors, we maintain peace so that investors come and we can grow our country,” he said.

He appealed to Kenyans to observe peace and tolerance for the sake of unity and economic stability of the nation to make their businesses thrive even in the international markets.

“No investment is going to come to Kenya if we are violent people engaged in the destruction of property and business. We want to encourage people to invest in our country but we must also as the people of Kenya make sure we are a peaceful nation and a people that appreciates property and business otherwise we are going to lose investments,” he noted.

“I don’t want to hear people are not investing in Homa Bay because of violence; kwani kuna faida gani kwa hii fujo? Hiyo maneno mimi nimekataa.”
