Gachagua Mourns Fr. Maina, Demands Justice After Sudden Death

Shock and Sorrow: Gachagua Cries Foul Over Suspicious Death of Popular Catholic Priest Fr John Maina- Demands Justice as Nation Reels in Mystery

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has broken his silence after the shocking death of Catholic priest Fr. John Maina Ndegwa, who died just weeks after hosting him.

In a heartfelt statement on Wednesday, May 21, Gachagua described the late priest as a fearless truth-teller and a man of deep faith.

“The death of Fr. John Maina Ndegwa, Parish Priest at Igwamiti Parish in Nyandarua, is truly heartbreaking. He was a kind-hearted man who fearlessly spoke the truth, just like Jesus Christ would,” Gachagua said.

He shared that he recently spent time with Fr. Maina during his silver jubilee celebration and recalled the powerful sermon the priest gave on matters affecting the nation.

“Only two weeks before his untimely death, Fr. John welcomed me to his silver jubilee. His message that day was bold and addressed key national issues.

“We were close friends for many years. I valued his advice and wisdom on matters of national concern,” Gachagua added.

He also called on authorities to investigate the case thoroughly and ensure that justice is served.

“I urge security officers to speed up investigations and ensure the people behind this brutal act are arrested and prosecuted.

“My condolences go to the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Nyahururu, the Catholic community of Igwamiti Parish, and the wider church family,” he said.

Fr. Maina was last seen in public on April 27, 2025, during a church event attended by Gachagua and several other leaders. According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), he was found injured two weeks later.

The DCI revealed that on May 15, 2025, Fr. Maina was discovered by a motorcycle rider along the Nakuru-Nairobi highway near Diotomite stage. He had visible injuries and told the rider that he had been kidnapped in Nyahururu.

The rider rushed him to St. Josephโ€™s Mission Hospital in Gilgil. Medical staff confirmed he had serious head injuries and was bleeding.

Despite quick medical attention, Fr. Maina sadly passed away just minutes after arriving at the hospital.

His body was later transferred to the Nyahururu Sub-County morgue for preservation and postmortem, following requests from his fellow worshippers.
