Stop Lying- Mombasa Governor Dares Gachagua on Drug Barons After 4-Day Ultimatum Lapses
Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir, in a fiery speech on Saturday, took a swipe at Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over the government’s failure to arrest drug barons in the county.
Speaking at an official function, the governor wondered why the government had failed to arrest the drug barons within the 4-day ultimatum that was issued by Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome.
According to Nassir, Gachagua was playing with the emotions of the residents adding that the government has all powers to enforce the arrests.
“We do not have intelligence. Don’t come here and cheat us every time by telling us that you will arrest them. Arrest them. Every time you keep talking about the former regime. You are now in government and you have intelligence, the DCI, and other agencies.
“All you do is teargas protesting doctors instead of arresting the drug barons. Then you can here and say that you have given them a notice. We are tired of decades of notices. We want action as the people of Mombasa,” he stated.
Consequently, he dared the government to arrest those behind the drug trade or let the county government take up the responsibility.
Nassir opined that the drug menace would be dealt with effectively through the prevention of use and dismantling of the supply chain.

“If you won’t do it, we will work with the MCAs to come up with a special team that will deal with this drug menace.
“Arrest them now and parade them so that people can see who they are. Stop lying,” he stated.
The governor was referring to remarks made by Gachagua and other government officials during a stakeholder meeting in Mombasa on Monday.
At the event, Gachagua criticised local leaders for failing to attend the meeting, opining that they were scared of the barons.
“Why are some not here, this is a conversation every elected leader should be part of. Unless you are telling us there is no problem. We cannot win this war without the leaders. We are calling upon them to join us,” the DP stated then.
On the other hand, IG Koome instructed his officers to arrest drug barons within four days.
He also proposed for the use of face masks in court to be revoked, stating that the barons needed to be shamed in public.
