Sondus Clashes: Key Figures to Give Statements – CS Kindiki

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki on Wednesday issued a stern warning over developments on the security situation along the Kisumu-Kericho border after leaflets were circulated, warning of impending clashes.

Responding to MPs, Kindiki revealed that 12 suspects have been apprehended and are awaiting arraignment in court by the end of the week.

He further stated that the government has already narrowed down on particular individuals from Kisumu and Kericho who the government suspects to be masterminding the attacks.

”We have been engaging the security infrastructure on both sides of the border in the two counties and our forensic investigations have led us to certain people of interest who will be recording statements including people from Kericho County and people from Kisumu County,”

Earlier in the day, security had been beefed up in Sondu after the leaflets were circulated.

”I commit that we will not spare anybody neither will we introduce ethnicity or any affiliation, we will charge everybody who is culpable irrespective of ethnic, political or any other affiliation,” noted Kindiki

CS Kindiki who had earlier transferred all the officers in the area, stated that the government had already channeled resources to combat any security threat in the area.

Kindiki further stated that the clashes were attributed to the laxity of officers assigned to the area who have been since transferred.

Similarly, Nyanza Regional Commissioner Flora Mworoa, responding to the matter noted that the government will investigate the matter and bring the culprits to book.

The leaflets according to the residents, contained messages of hate.

In the wee hours of October 5, three people were killed after clashes erupted in the Sondu area leaving several injured and one house torched.

President William Ruto while on a visit to the region asked the security officials to bring to book those behind the attacks.
