Six Convicted in Fatal Poisoning of Former MP George Thuo, Justice for Politician’s Family a Decade After Murder
On Friday, April 19, Justice Roselyne Korir of Milimani Law Courts found six people guilty of murdering George Thuo, a former Juja Constituency Member of Parliament.
In 2013, six individuals were accused of murdering the billionaire by poisoning his drink at a club in Thika.
Justice Korir concluded that the prosecution’s presented evidence and witness testimonies demonstrated convincingly that the six individuals were guilty of the charges.
The court established that the first, second, third, and fourth respondents remained with the deceased throughout the evening on the day in question. It was verified that they stayed at the table without leaving until the night ended.
Justice Korir stated that the four defendants had the resources and chance to manipulate the drink.
“It is my finding that the prosecution has proved its case. Each accused is convicted accordingly,” the judge noted.

The court canceled their bail and rejected the testimony from the sixth accused, who claimed she had bought a drink for the victim.
“Was the hug of the sixth person the Judas kiss? Evidence showed that she was a regular customer and she would be given the change even without buying a drink for the MP,” the court noted in reply to her testimony that stated she hugged the former legislator before leaving.
The verdict comes after hearing from 30 witnesses and reviewing ten exhibits.
Thuo passed away on the evening of November 17, 2013, after dining at a restaurant in Thika town. It is suspected that his death was due to poisoning.
“His death was due to hemorrhagic gastroenteritis acute due to suspected chemical poisoning,” a pathologist had then noted.
The six individuals will now need to request leniency from the court before their sentencing.
