Sifuna To PS Omollo: Stop Distributing Beans In Raila’s Stronghold

ODM Secretary General and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has strongly criticized Dr. Raymond Omollo, the Principal Secretary of Interior, for the escalating security challenges in Lamu County.

The senator claimed that the Principal Secretary (PS) played a significant role in swaying ODM supporters from the Nyanza region, the party’s stronghold, to join President William Ruto’s ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.

He mentioned that Professor Kithure Kindiki, the Interior Cabinet Secretary, requires substantial assistance from his Permanent Secretary to guarantee optimal security for the residents of Lamu, given the numerous recent assaults by the Al-Shabaab militia.

“I asked you if you know the Interior CS, and you said that you know him. But he has his deputy called Raymond Omollo, who you don’t know. He has the PS who rarely comes here to know the level of security,” Sifuna said.

The Senator alleged that some of the people whom President Ruto appointed to his cabinet were just picked to fill the positions as his allies.

“When was the last time that you came to Lamu? He is busy daily distributing beans and rice in Nyanza, thinking that will attract ODM supporters to the government.”

At the gathering in Lamu, where ODM leader Raila Odinga was present, Sifuna asserted that the Public Servant was occupied organizing local discussions in certain areas of Nyanza, despite ongoing security concerns in Lamu.

One week later, the PS and other government officials received support from a group of professional youth in the South Nyanza region, prompting his comments.

The young individuals asserted that, despite predominantly supporting the opposition in the 2022 election, the government has made significant efforts to benefit the Nyanza people.

They also urged the ODM party to stop engaging in political division in the Nyanza region. They highlighted that this division has resulted in the region lagging for several decades, remaining in the opposition while other parts of the country prosper under the current government.
