Shock as Kitale Women’s Prison Constable Takes Her Own Life Using Mobile Phone Charging Cable
The Tumaini estate, located on the outskirts of Kitale town in Trans Nzoia County, was filled with shock and sorrow following the suicide of a female prison Constable from Kitale Women’s Prison. The tragic incident took place in her rented house, and it is presumed that she took her own life approximately four days ago.
Linda Machuma Wafula was discovered deceased on Sunday evening, her lifeless form resting against a bunk bed, having taken her own life with the use of a mobile phone charging cable.
Francis Kihara, the Criminal Investigations Officer (CCIO) of Trans Nzoia County, informed Gossipa2z that the reason for her suicide remains unknown, and investigative efforts have been initiated to determine the motive.
“We have not known why she took her own life because she did not leave behind any suicide note at the scene but we doing investigations to determine what really transpired,” Kihara said.
As per statements from neighbors, headed by Judith Nasimiyu, the 28-year-old official was recently observed at her home on February 1, 2024.
She mentioned that a noxious odor emanating from her room caught the notice of neighbors. They promptly informed the police, who subsequently forced open the door that had been secured from within, revealing her deceased body.

“She was a very jovial and outgoing officer who interacted freely with everybody. We last saw her playing with some kids here and we are still shocked because we did not expect that she could commit suicide,” Nasimiyu said.
A fellow neighbor, Kevin Kulumba, characterized the person who passed away as a lively participant in the community who had a passion for dancing and singing.
“Linda’s social intelligence was unmatched. She was a great dancer and she entertained people fearlessly and her death is a big blow to us,” Kulumba said.
The body was taken out of the residence and transported to the mortuary at Cherangany Nursing Home, where it will undergo a postmortem examination.
This marks the third occurrence of suicide among prison staff. In the previous year, a male prison Constable took his own life at his rented residence in the Lessos area. Additionally, on November 8, 2023, a prison Corporal officer from Kitale Medium Prison committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree within the correctional facility.
