‘SHIF Is A Must,’ President Ruto Warns Those Opposing New Health Insurance Fund
President William Ruto says his government will not relent on the Social Health Insurance Fund and will take on cartels in the health ministry head-on.
Speaking in Baringo during the Annual Kimalel Goat Auction, President Ruto said deep-rooted cartels have been looting the Ministry of Health and engaging in fraud.ย
He says the fund will be implemented at all costs as he accused what he termed as โcartelsโ of sponsoring cases in court against the program.
โMambo ni matatuโฆwe are not going to accept blackmail…those sponsoring cases against UHC are beneficiaries in the NHIF,โ Ruto said.
He further said his administration will not blink in its journey to bring equity in the provision of health services.
โHao wakora ndio walikuwa cartels kwa Ministry of Health na NHIFโฆtutawasimamishaโฆhatutakubali matapeli katika wizara ya afya,โ he added.
President Ruto also revisited the insecurity in the northern part of the country and affirmed his government’s commitment to ending banditry.
โHapa North Rift tuko na majeshi 1,500 tuko na askari 3,000 ninawahakikishia hawa askari hawawezi kutoka hapa hadi wakora wote watokeโฆtumewawekea notice. Wamepunguza mambo…mambo bado,โ he insited.
Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen on his part said the government would work together to deal with bandits.
โWe are not going to wake up every day to news of bandits and people being killed,โ he noted.

The president added that all schools that have been deserted due to insecurity, will resume teaching in January.
โWe want all schools ambazo zilifungwa wanafunzi warudi madarasani January tumeanza kuzitengeneza ziwe sawa,โ the president noted.
His deputy Rigathi Gachagua said the government is working around the hour to stabilise the power supply, particularly at the JKIA which is the country’s point of entry.
โGenerators ziko JKIA ni zile za ile serikali ingine sasa Murkomen nunua generator ingine yenye inafanya kazi…jenga airport mpya ndio tuheshimiwe na mataifa mengine,โ Gachagua said.
Earlier in the day, the president held a meeting with Lamu leaders where he called for an enhanced security operation to restore peace.
โWe want leaders to work with us to ensure we do not have bad elements,โ Ruto stated.
Interior CS Kithure Kindiki on his part added: โAs we go into next year, we want to up our game against terror elements.โ
