Several Pupils Feared Dead After School Bus Overturns in Murang’a

Several pupils were on Saturday feared dead after a bus belonging to Maadili Primary School overturned in Mathioya, Murang’a.

According to reports, two students allegedly succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment at the Murang’a Level 5 hospital.

Eyewitnesses stated that the students were coming from a scouts event in Nyeri County when the accident occurred.

They added that the school bus lost control and veered off the road before overturning in a nearby thicket.

The exact number of fatalities and casualties is yet to be established.

Police officers arrived at the scene moments after the accident with rescue operations launched to save more pupils trapped inside the bus wreckage.

In photos shared widely, the bus was completely deformed with its glass windows broken and strewn all over the place, depicting the extent of the accident.

Investigations have since been launched by the police to establish the root cause of the accident.

This accident follows a similar incident that occurred in Vihiga County where a form one student died while three others were injured after being hit by a personal car.

The four students were headed to school for a morning lesson when they were knocked down while crossing the road.

The deceased who was barely a term old at the school, died on the spot while the other three were rushed to Mbale Hospital.

โ€œOut of the three students, two were stable enough to go home, while the other one will remain behind for further management of her injuries, as the way she is presenting, indicates severe damage,โ€ Mbale Hospital Superintendent Zimbule stated.
