Senator Threatens to Impeach CS Aden Duale
Narok Senator Ledama Olekina has issued a stern warning to Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, threatening to push for his impeachment over remarks he made about the Mount Kenya region.
Speaking on Monday, August 18, Olekina said Dualeโs comments suggesting that Mount Kenya leaders view themselves as a โsuperior communityโ were tribal, divisive, and dangerous for national unity.
According to the senator, such remarks are unacceptable coming from a government minister, arguing that only a politician could get away with such rhetoric.
โHon. Duale, you are a Cabinet Secretary, not a tribal politician. This weekendโs โshareholdingโ talk is toxic and takes Kenya back to the dark days of 2007. If you think you are above the law, youโre wrong. Impeachment may be the only way to remind you that government belongs to all Kenyans,โ Olekina stated.
He accused Duale of undermining efforts to unite Kenyans, warning that tribal politics has no place in a country striving for cohesion.
What Duale Said
While addressing residents in Balambala, Garissa County, on Saturday, August 16, CS Duale insisted that no community in Kenya is superior to another. He argued that the Constitution guarantees equality for all Kenyans and defended President William Ruto, saying he was being unfairly targeted for championing national unity.

โThere is no superior community, region, or religion in Kenya. The Constitution provides equality for all. President Ruto is only trying to unite Kenyans,โ Duale said.
However, his remarks were quickly criticized, with several leaders accusing him of profiling the Mount Kenya region.
Moses Kuria and Other Leaders React
Former Trade CS Moses Kuria, now President Rutoโs ex-economic adviser, also condemned Dualeโs statement. Through a social media post on Sunday, Kuria accused him, alongside Tiaty MP William Kamket and Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago, of fueling dangerous tribal narratives.
โRecently, Iโve heard some leaders allege that one community believes itโs superior. From Kamket to Mandago to Duale in Balambala, this is unacceptable. We reject divisive politics and we will not allow collective punishment of an entire community,โ Kuria said.
The heated exchange has sparked debate on tribal politics, unity, and leadership responsibility in Kenya, with many awaiting to see whether Senator Olekina will table a formal impeachment motion against CS Duale.
