Senator Omtatah’s Office in Shocking Raid

Unknown individuals invaded the office of Senator Okiya Omtatah of Busia on the evening of Friday, July 21.

The senator disclosed to GossipA2Z that unidentified individuals ravaged the office and stole electronics.

He affirmed that despite having reported the theft to the police, there were no leads as to who had stolen his valuables.

“I reported the incident on July 22, but nothing has been done,” a distraught Omtatah said, stressing that his office in Busia was the target.

The Senator has been a government critic, and he has a pending petition challenging the constitutionality of the Finance Act.

Omtatah remarked that he was uncertain if his office had been broken into because he was an outspoken critic of the Kenya Kwanza government.

The freshman senator did not specify whether the seized computers contained information about his active court cases or their contents.

During the nighttime assault, no casualties were reported, and the senator confirmed his safety.

Chief Justice Martha Koome appointed a three-judge panel to hear and rule on the Finance Act petition on Thursday, July 18.

A week earlier, Omtatah had announced publicly that he had been offered up to Ksh200 million in bribes to retract the petition.

“I have told them that my price is one; if you cannot govern, you must vacate the office for those who can,” the senator confirmed as he declined the offer.

The break-in occurred at a time when the Kenyan government was under scrutiny for an alleged crackdown on the opposition and dissidents.

Friday, July 21, the High Court ordered the police to present Maurice Ogeta, the bodyguard for Raila Odinga, at any police station in the republic. A day later, he was discovered abandoned on Kangundo Road.

On the same day, the family of former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga implored the police to produce him, claiming he had been kidnapped.
