Senator Exposes Ruto’s Two Efforts to Attract Raila’s Support

Vihiga Senator, Godfrey Osotsi, has expressed disapproval towards President William Ruto for what he characterized as contradictory statements regarding the mediation discussions involving the Kenya Kwanza and Azimio factions.

While participating in a talk show on Monday, a member of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) made a statement alleging that Ruto behaves differently when in front of the public and media compared to his private actions and opinions.

The lawmaker asserted that Ruto had undertaken two urgent efforts to communicate with Raila to address the political disagreement that has been endangering the nation’s stability.

Osotsi specifically pointed out that Ruto was the one who extended an invitation to Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu and former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo to facilitate discussions between the two opposing groups.

The Senator conveyed worry about how the President’s conflicting statements in both public and private settings regarding the political deadlock were leading to an unfavorable perception among both Kenyan citizens and the global community.

โ€œHe has been the one initiating talks. He brought in Suluhu and Raila showed up but he (Ruto) did not,โ€ Osotsi remarked while describing Raila as a statesman.

The senator from the ODM party urged President Ruto to refrain from mentioning Raila during his political rallies, to show a genuine commitment to the mediation discussions. The lawmaker suggested that tactics like these should be handled by younger members of parliament.

Osotsi contended that Ruto’s rooftop statements are inappropriate for someone in his position as the Head of State, particularly when he is in discussions with international leaders like Obasanjo and Suluhu.

Simultaneously, Osotsi offered his congratulations to Kalonzo and suggested that Ruto could learn something valuable from the former vice president’s actions.

Specifically, he highlighted that Kalonzo was currently involved in discussions with influential diplomats from the United States and other nations, aiming to foster political steadiness within the country.

Last week, Raila Odinga cautioned that if Ruto doesn’t actively engage in discussions, the opposition will declare the initiation of countrywide demonstrations.

The ex-prime minister additionally expressed that he had no desire for a coalition government.

During an interview with Inooro TV on Sunday, Ruto rejected the idea of both power-sharing and conducting an audit of the 2022 election results as potential topics for discussion with Azimio.
