Senator Cherargei Slams Raila’s Planned Demonstrations

Friday, June 30, Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei criticized Raila Odinga, leader of the Azimio Party, regarding the July 7 nationwide demonstrations.

Senator affiliated with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) warned that all demonstrators will be arrested and prosecuted if disorder ensues.

He also ridiculed Raila, asserting that the Azimio leader lacked innovative strategies in such circumstances and that the former prime minister had become progressively predictable.

“If any property is damaged or lives are lost as a result of Saba Saba, Raila Odinga, and other Azimio leaders must be held accountable, including being taken to court, fined, and arrested.

“He has not developed any new strategies since 1997. You lose an election, then you challenge the current government and demand demonstrations. This time you will not escape punishment; we must restore order to the country,” he emphasized.

Cherargei cautioned the youth against being used by the opposition during protests ostensibly aimed at pressuring the current government to reduce the prices of essential commodities.

“If they are protesting over the economy, what alternative have they proposed? Kenya is not alone in this regard. You will hear complaints about the economy wherever you go in the world,” he stated.

In the meantime, the senator emphasized that President William Ruto’s administration will not yield to Raila’s demands.

Cherargei added, “I want to assure the public that the government will protect their property and lives.”

Raila announced the return of demonstrations and other measures Kenyans can take to protest Ruto’s government, with a focus on the taxes imposed by the government, on Tuesday, June 27.

While at Kamukunji Grounds, Raila called for civil disobedience against the Finance Act, of 2023, which seeks to implement a minefield of taxes with a significant portion of the funds designated for nationwide development projects.

“On Friday, June 7, 2023, We the People will convene for a major declaration on the Saba Saba holiday. We will announce several strategies at the event that will cripple Ruto’s regime,” Raila declared.

Among the measures proposed by Raila are carpooling, walking to work, not overloading vehicles, not using electronic tax registers, and blocking Ruto’s motorcade.
