Sabina Chege to Succeed Uhuru as Jubilee Party Leader
Sabina Chege, a member of parliament nominee, was named acting leader of the Jubilee Party on Tuesday, May 2, replacing former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Kanini Kega, a member of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) and an ally of President William Ruto, confirmed the appointment while speaking in his capacity as Secretary-General outside the offices of the Jubilee party.
However, he competes for the role of secretary general with Jeremiah Kioni, who is on the side of Uhuru.
This competition has been going on for some time.
Kioni and Kega have referred to themselves as the secretary generals of the Jubilee party.
The appointment was one of the resolutions discussed and decided upon during a gathering of party officials.

He went on to say that the National Delegates Conference (NDC) that Uhuru had organized was against the constitution.
“Our side has a majority because we have 28 members, and today we held a meeting that consisted of 22 members with three members apologizing for their absences. As a result, we concluded that the upcoming meeting called for by Uhuru violates the Constitution of our political party.
The Constitution mandates that a former president must wait at least half a year after leaving office before engaging in any political activity.
His term would have ended in March 2023 if we start counting from the time he left office.
By the resolutions passed during the meeting, Kega stated unequivocally that he continued to serve in the capacity of Secretary-General.
Since Uhuru is no longer the leader of the Jubilee party, he is unable to manage any of the party’s operations.
According to the Constitution, the statement that he delegated concerning the convention of the meeting is invalid and cannot stand.
By the guidelines outlined in the constitution of the party, it is my responsibility to organize events of this nature in my capacity as Secretary-General.
“The NEC Committee resolved that Sabina will serve as the acting party leader until the time that we convene a National Delegates Convention (NDC), where we will select the leader who will run the party moving forward,” he pointed out. “The NDC will choose the leader who will run the party moving forward.”
