Sabina Chege Reveals Untold Ruto Encounter Post-Uhuru Split
On Tuesday, Sabina Chege, a Nominated Member of Parliament, outlined her experience of confronting President William Ruto during a meeting at State House several months following the 2022 General Election.
During an interview on Spice FM, Chege disclosed that she had inquired with Ruto about the widespread dismissals occurring in the initial months of the Kenya Kwanza government.
The Member of Parliament expressed worry over the high number of individuals from the Mt Kenya region being dismissed from government positions and urged the President to be more lenient towards those appointed by Uhuru.

Chege shared the challenging inquiries she directed at the Head of State, mentioning that Ruto assured a more lenient approach towards the widespread dismissals in his administration following his consideration of her worries.
“I asked him, were you not part of the government? Why would you want to remove people from their positions unless they are jeopardizing the government?
“Every Friday, we were waiting for the gazette notice. I told him (Ruto) that some of these people’s families may have voted for him. He said that he had a conversation with his deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, and they decided to go slow and give the Uhuru appointees time to serve,” she stated.
However, the Member of Parliament elaborated that her Jubilee faction also aimed to actively participate in government matters, emphasizing their desire to do more than just criticize government programs as they were part of the opposition.
Nevertheless, she asserted that her Jubilee faction operates autonomously and does not possess a coalition arrangement with the governing party.
Differences With Uhuru
She asserted that despite the contrasts she had with ex-President Uhuru Kenyatta, there was no animosity or ill will between them.
However, she explained that she hadn’t met with Uhuru yet, but she encouraged him to make contact and bring together the former governing party.
Chege mentioned that the most recent gathering Uhuru had with them occurred soon after the elections, following her expression of worry regarding certain candidates from the Jubilee Party who were unsuccessful in the previous elections.
“He is my friend. I told him to meet some of our members who lost and some of them were almost going into depression because they believed that we would win. I told him to meet them and just give them a word of encouragement.
“When we met, we agreed that he needs to meet with the elected leaders so that we can have a way forward. We thought we needed to have shadow cabinet ministers so that we critique the government from an informed point of view. He never met with us,” Chege detailed.
The appointed Member of Parliament assumed the role of interim leader of the Jubilee Party following her group’s decision to oust Uhuru from his position.
The matter is still active in court following an application made by the other Jubilee faction led by embattled Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni.
