Sabina Chege: Raila would have been president if I was his running mate

Nominated MP Sabina Chege has said Azimio Coalition would have formed government if she had been chosen as the presidential running mate of the outfit.

Speaking on Wednesday, Sabina said Azimio leader Raila Odinga would have been president if he had chosen her as the deputy presidential running mate.

At the same time, Sabina claimed that it was difficult to campaign for Raila in Mt Kenya.

“I did not vie because I wanted to fight for the party. Despite us being called names and being told to go sell Baba (Raila) which was very difficult, you saw me in the entire country. At some point, I was named among the potential presidential running mates. I wish they had given me that chance; we would have won,” she said.

In the 2022 general elections, Raila chose Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua to be his running mate.

The legislator said that she earned her nomination to Parliament owing to her allegiance to the elected leaders in the House.

She said President William Ruto’s Jubilee allies supported Azimio and believed in the Handshake between Raila and former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“I earned this position, it was not a favor given to me. The only way I qualified is because of the elected members of the National Assembly. If it was not for them I would not have gotten this,” she said.

The legislator said that she will continue fighting for Jubilee despite intimidation and court cases.

The Jubilee MP has been facing opposition in parliament that saw her kicked out as Azimio deputy minority whip.

She was however handed a new role by Speaker Moses Wetang’ula who named her whip of the Jubilee Parliamentary Party.
