Ruto’s Shocking Report Unveils Kenya’s 13 Most Dangerous Gangs

President William Ruto has compiled a list of thirteen organizations that terrorized Kenyans between May 2022 and August 2023 in various regions of the country.

The Head of State, in the State of National Security Report, presented to Parliament, enumerated several criminal gangs responsible for the escalating insecurity within the nation. These gangs comprised the Kamagira gang based in Kiambu and the Confirm gang based in Nakuru.

Wakali Wao and Panga Boys, both based in Mombasa, were also ranked among the top thirteen organizations in the nation.

MRC (Mombasa), Dambel, 26 Sheba, Kayole Jamaican (Nairobi), Mbogi la Islam, 3 Phase, Peaceland, and Geta were among the additional organizations that were enumerated.

The report indicates that the gangs were most active during the campaign season when politicians utilized them primarily to rally support.

However, Ruto disclosed that as the police moved to dismantle the organized criminal organizations, several arrests had been documented.

“During the period under review, a total of 1,113 suspect members of these gangs were arrested and arraigned in Court,” read the report in part.

“The highest number of suspects arrested was from the Kamagira Gang which accounted for 587 arrests followed by Confirm which stood at 295 arrests.”

However, Ruto informed Parliament that the majority of gang members were young people, a trend that was further exacerbated by the nation’s increasing unemployment rate.

In light of this, the Head of State outlined four key areas in which his administration will concentrate its efforts to combat organized criminal organizations.

“To address this menace the Government has established multi-agency operations aimed at dismantling these criminal gangs and enhancing community policing,” Ruto reported.

“Strengthened youth outreach programs to address youth susceptibility to crime has also been undertaken.”

Additionally, empowerment programs like the Hustler Fund were enumerated as mitigating actions.
