Ruto’s Church Chaos- Gachagua Blasts President for Sparking Roysambu Mayhem
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has blamed President William Ruto for the troubles facing Jesus Winner Ministry Church.
The church, located in Roysambu, Nairobi County, became a hot topic after Ruto visited and promised to donate millions of shillings. His pledge sparked controversy, with some young people claiming the money might have been taken from public funds.
Upset by this, a group of youth organized themselves to protest at the church, targeting Bishop Edward Mwai and other leaders for accepting the donation.
On Sunday, March 9, the protesters followed through with their threats and attempted to storm the church. However, police officers had been deployed early in the morning to prevent any disruptions. The officers confronted the protesters, arresting 38 of them while using teargas to disperse the rest.
Gachagua later reacted to the incident, blaming Ruto for the chaos. While addressing a church service in Kitengela, Kajiado County, he said Jesus Winner Ministry had been operating peacefully until Ruto’s visit.

He argued that since Ruto made his donation, the church had become a place of conflict, requiring police officers to maintain order during services. Gachagua warned that any church inviting Ruto should be prepared to work closely with security forces.
The controversy began when Ruto attended a church service at Jesus Winner Ministry on Sunday, March 2. During the service, he pledged KSh 120 million, saying it was a contribution from himself and his friends to help construct another church building.
Many Kenyans were angered by the large donation and took to social media to express their disappointment. They criticized Bishop Mwai for accepting the money, claiming it was stolen from taxpayers. Some even vowed to raid the church to reclaim what they believed was public money.
Despite the backlash, Bishop Mwai defended the church, saying there was nothing wrong with the president visiting and donating. He pointed out that previous leaders, including former Presidents Uhuru Kenyatta and Mwai Kibaki, as well as Gachagua himself, had also visited the church in the past.
