Ruto Vows Firm Action Against Violence

President William Ruto has pledged that the Government will spare no effort in addressing all types of violence and damage to property.

Addressing an audience on Thursday at Konza Techno City in Machakos County during the ceremony of granting a charter to the Open University of Kenya, the leader of the nation stated that his administration would not yield to pressures and coercion, ensuring that disorder does not disrupt the nation’s stability.

โ€œI have said that it will never happen again in Kenya. Violence, destruction of property, and inciting Kenyans against one another will not be allowed,โ€ Dr Ruto said.

He mentioned that the authorities will utilize every available means to bring back peace and order.

โ€œWhatever it takes, we will mobilize all the available resources to secure the lives of Kenyans and their property and ensure Kenya is firmly on the foundation of a peaceful nation because violence undermines our democracy, development, prosperity, and standing as a nation,โ€ he said.

Ruto’s feelings arise while the nation anxiously anticipates the results of the upcoming round of cross-party discussions planned between the Azimio One Kenya and Kenya Kwanza Alliance.

The President defended his Governmentโ€™s fiscal policy measures which have been criticized by the opposition as oppressive and punitive, saying they had begun bearing fruit.

โ€œFor the first time in ten years, we were able to disburse counties’ cash in July to the last cent. We have also increased the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) to sh 1 billion,โ€ said Ruto.

Machakos Deputy Governor, Francis Mwangangi, announced that the leadership of the county, led by Governor Wavinya Ndeti, had committed to collaborate with the Kenya Kwanza government to expedite progress in the most prosperous county of Ukambani.

Mwangangi stated that the county leadership’s stance is against tolerating violent protests, as they do not align with the welfare of the local inhabitants.

โ€œGovernor Wavinyaโ€™s administration is going to work with Kenya Kwanza so that the people can gain from the National government. Let us have a different approach in addressing political disputes other than violence,โ€ said Mwangangi.

The Director-General expressed his sorrow over the loss of Ksh 700 million due to the vandalism of the Nairobi Expressway by troublemakers in Mlolongo. This amount of money could have been used to construct a hospital facility at Level 5.

Mwangangi urged Ruto to guard democracy even as he engages in talks with the opposition. โ€œRuto won the election against the โ€˜systemโ€™ and the courts also affirmed his victory. Although the door of dialogue is open, the President should not compromise the established principles of democracy which give the winner of any election to enjoy the privilege,โ€ he said.

Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. avoided engaging in political power struggles and instead encouraged the President to focus on finishing different developmental initiatives in Makueni.

Governor Kilonzo Jr advocated for the asphalt paving of the Emali-Ukia road, stating that this action would facilitate greater connectivity between the lower Eastern region and the Northern frontier counties.

โ€œThe Namanga-Kajiado-Emali-Ukia-Garissa road is the only economic corridor in the region and will spur growth in Kajiado, Makueni, Machakos, and Garissa Counties. The extension of the national fiber optic cable from the county commissionerโ€™s office headquarters to the rest of the public offices will also enhance digitization in service delivery,โ€ said Kilonzo Jnr.
