Ruto Turns Down Ababu Namwamba’s Plea for Ministry Appointment, Triggering Speculation
On Friday, June 9, President William Ruto revealed that Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba requested to be appointed to another ministry before the release of Cabinet names.
According to the Head of State, the Sports CS believed he would be better suited in another capacity.
Ruto, while addressing delegates at the launch of the Talanta Hela Initiative, was circumspect about Namwamba’s desired agenda.
However, he explained to Namwamba that he was better positioned in the sports ministry as a result of their previous conversations.
“When it was time to appoint Cabinet members, he requested that I appoint him to another ministry, but I refused. I told him that I was more familiar with my team, and you (Namwamba) concur that I made the right decision.
“You have my support for your efforts in this space. We have discussed what you are doing in this industry,” he disclosed.

Namwamba was rumored to be the likely candidate for the Foreign Affairs Ministry, which is currently held by Alfred Mutua, the former governor of Machakos.
The reports were based on his appointments in previous governments and his position as director of international relations for Ruto’s campaign secretariat.
On the other hand. He described the CS as a personal friend who left his position in the administration of former President Uhuru Kenyatta. To join the Kenya Kwanza campaign team.
The President opposed Ababu Namwamba’s decision to resign as Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) for Foreign Affairs months before the 2022 General Election.
“When I went to the elections, Namwamba was working for us at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Because he was my friend, he informed me of his intention to resign one morning.
He told me that it would be very difficult for him to maintain his employment and support me at the same time. I attempted to convince him but was unsuccessful,” he stated.
Namwamba, for his part, expressed confidence in reforming the ministry, which he stated required reorganization. He mentioned the sports and music industries as two sectors that would benefit from the newly launched initiative.
“The Talanta Hela will connect the previously unconnected dots.” You (Ruto) instructed me to stabilize the ship and rectify the situation. “I was doing exactly that,” he stated.
