Ruto Team Succumbs to Raila’s Demands, Meets 48-Hour Deadline
On Wednesday, May 10, the 14-member Bipartisan Committee. Comprised of Azimio and Kenya Kwanza Parliamentarians agreed to meet the demands of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
The Kenya Kwanza wing of the Bipartisan Committee agreed to Raila’s ultimatum. That the negotiations must be concluded within 30 days. With an additional 30-day extension granted if the members fail to resolve on time.
While addressing the press at the Bomas of Kenya. The Bipartisan Committee stated that they were prepared to continue the negotiations. And would gladly inform the nation if additional time is required.
“As Azimio, we had allotted 30 days, while Kenya Kwanza had allotted 90 days. However, we have agreed to limit this period to no more than 60 days, with the most pressing issues to be addressed within the first 30 days, as stated by Otiende Amollo, co-chairman of the bipartisan committee.
The Kenya Kwanza, Azimio Coalition bipartisan talks team met for the first time. At the Villa Rosa Kempinski Hotel in Nairobi on Thursday, April 20, 2023.
Previously, Kenya Kwanza had vehemently opposed the 30-day ultimatum. Arguing that it was insufficient time for meaningful negotiations with the Opposition.
“Kenya Kwanza pledged to prioritize the interests of Kenyans over those of leaders. Senator-nominated Esther Okenyuri, who was representing Kenya Kwanza in the talks, remarked, “We stand to lose more as women leaders and even on behalf of the ordinary women we represent if we scuttle the Bipartisan Talks.”
Raila warned on Monday, May 8. That he would lead his troops back onto the streets if the negotiations lasted longer than thirty days.

Raila stated, “We have instructed our delegates to make it clear that we want these negotiations to conclude within 30 days from the date of their commencement.”
The leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) gave President William Ruto 48 hours. To bring his side to the table for negotiations, failing which he would call for another round of mass action.
The committee also unanimously decided not to address preliminary objections raised by East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) member Kanini Kega, who demanded the inclusion of the Jubilee Party in the ongoing negotiations.
“We received a letter from the Jubilee party protesting the removal of Adan Keynan and requesting action on the matter. Otiende stated, “We agreed that it is not for this team to discuss the Constitution of other teams.”
Kega questioned, in a letter to the Bipartisan Committee, why the Jubilee Party, one of the largest political parties in the country, lacked a representative.
Kega remarked that the resignation of Eldas MP Adan Keynan exposed his party, so he demanded an immediate resolution to ensure that the Jubilee Party’s political views were adequately represented.
“We are writing to protest the exclusion of the Jubilee Party from your proposed committee membership. Your committee’s proposed charge will have far-reaching effects on our electoral process, in which the Jubilee Party is a major player.
