Raila’s Revelation: Ruto’s Deception and Azimio’s Protest Ultimatum

On Monday, May 8, the leader of the Azimio party, Raila Odinga, gave President William a 48-hour ultimatum to assemble his team for the bipartisan talks or he would withdraw.

In a press briefing, the leader of Azimio stated that the president had become hesitant after agreeing to end nationwide protests and engage in negotiations.

Raila explained that the Azimio team agreed to negotiations in good faith because they believed the Kenya Kwanza team to be sincere.

However, they discovered that they were coerced into agreeing to the negotiations because foreign guests were visiting the country.

“We called off the protests in good faith after Kenya Kwanza informed us that they were ready for negotiations and would remove Adan Keynan, whom they had appointed as one of their delegates.

Raila stated, “We knew the real reason they did it was because they were expecting visitors and did not want demonstrations at the time.”

Raila urged the Kenya Kwanza coalition to find a way to assemble their team by Wednesday. Citing the team’s repeated insistence that certain members were unavailable.

He insisted that the negotiations must commence on May 10, 2023, or else they will explore other options.

“They claim that members are unavailable and that a quorum is lacking to begin discussions.

“We have assigned Monday and Tuesday to them. The negotiations must begin on Wednesday. If they are not prepared, we will consider the agreement canceled and pursue other options,” Raila stated.

The Kenya Kwanza bipartisan team replaced Eldas Member of Parliament Adan Keynan. On Wednesday, May 3, after he agreed to step down.

The team urged Raila and his team to reconsider the generous offer and return to the negotiating table.
