Ruto Strikes Monetisation Deal With Facebook for Kenyan Creatives
On Tuesday, President William Ruto revealed that his government had reached an agreement with Meta, enabling Kenyan artists to generate income via its social media platforms.
During the Jamhuri Day celebrations, Ruto mentioned that moving forward, creators of content will have the opportunity to make money through Facebook and Instagram.
“This administration has taken deliberate steps to invest in the creative industry. I have good news for our creatives and those who imagine and produce content through Facebook and Instagram,” the President stated.
“Just yesterday, META committed to helping creators in Kenya earn money for crafting original content.”
The President declared the completion of the agreement with META after a prosperous trial run involving specifically qualified content creators within the nation.
The President mentioned that META will be broadening its ways to generate income and enabling a greater number of creators to make a living from pursuing their passions.

Ruto initially declared plans to engage with META in the monetization of indigenous content at the Jamhuri Day celebrations held last year.
โI have spoken directly to Meta, the parent company of Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram, to monetize content. If I was not a State officer, I wonder what the content on my small Facebook page would earn me daily,โ Ruto stated a year ago to this day.
In October, META confirmed that Kenyans would have the opportunity to earn money from video reels they share on its platforms.
Individuals from Kenya who possess substantial followings on Facebook and Instagram are set to gain the most, as compensation will depend on engagement metrics such as the number of comments, likes, and shares.
As the criteria for eligibility may evolve in the future, at present, earning revenue will depend on achieving a minimum of 1,000 views.
